Recovering PCFort Data to a new computer

The computer must have a Windows operating system installed and access to the Internet. Download PCFort service software and install it on your new computer. Choose the recovery option from the menu supplied. You will require your user name, password and encryption key to recover data. If you have lost your password it is possible to get the information from DataFort provided you can verify ownership of the account. Encryption keys can only be recovered if you have chosen to lodge them on the backup servers.

Recall full file list
Selecting ‘get file list’ returns the complete list of all files stored on the backup server. Directories can be telescoped to reveal individual files. Telescoping individual files will reveal each version available. Select the items to be returned locally. A window is presented giving the choice to return files to their original position or to the backup directory. If a file is returned to their original position and that file already exists, The Service will rename the local file and place the returned file in its place.
Search Tool
Enter drive letter, directory name or file name to return only those items. The tool is case sensitive. When the list of files is complete, click on the items to be returned to the computer and click on the ‘restore button.’ A window is presented giving you the choice to return files to their original position or to the Service directory. If a file is returned to its original position and that file already exists, The Service will rename the local file and place the returned file in its place.
The only recovery option for PCFort is via the Internet.

Select+ Data Recovery

Recovery from the backup appliance

Some Select+ accounts are setup with the DataFort agent on your local computers and servers. Some accounts have the agent on the backup appliance.   If the agent is on your computers it will be automatically pointed at the backup appliance to recover data locally.  To recover data from the appliance follow the steps for a DataFort Select+ recovery.

You can always contact the support desk with assistance in recovering your data. The support engineers will be happy to help you with any questions or assistance with your account.
If your Select+ account arrangements are set up with the agent on the backup appliance the support desk will have to perform the recovery of your data from the backup appliance. Contact DataFort support with details of:

  1. Exactly what data you wish restored
  2. Where on your network you would like the data restored. You must make sure there is sufficient space on this disk drive to recover your data.

The default restoration setting is to recover only the latest file version. If you require earlier versions or all versions make sure to let the support engineer know your requirement.

Recovery of data from the data centre

To order a disaster recovery from the data centre, contact the support desk with details of your recovery requirement and the location where you wish the data delivered. A new backup appliance with your compressed and encrypted data will be delivered to your chosen location. While it is possible to recover the data from the appliance yourself, you can request that an engineer assist in the recovery process. If the original appliance was stolen or destroyed during the DR event, the appliance will remain on your new premises.

Though every effort will be made to get your data to you as quickly as possible, it can take up to 3 business days to get your data from the data centre.
