DATAFORT Select
How do I start my trial account?
What do I need to start an account?
You will need to select a user name, password and an encryption key, that you create. The key will be unique to your account and it will be used to scramble your data before transmission to the data Centre.
How do I register my account?
The registration process is built into the software agent. Download the agent, onto the computer you wish to use to run the service software.
You can back up this computer and any other, networked to it. However, as there is no cost implication to running more than one copy of the software, you may wish to keep your recovery process simple by creating a backup account for each computer needing security. You can then contact accounts and ask that the accounts be linked so you get one invoice a month.
To start the registration process install the service software and enter the unlock code 742750-560. After you have completed the registration and the software has checked your firewall setup and transmitted your registration to the Network Operations Centre, you can start making the data selections and exclusions for your backup. You will also need to set a time for the backup to take place, remembering that the computer must be left turned on so the backups can complete as required.

A note about data exclusions.

Since the service is charged by the size of your backup account at the data centre it makes sense to take a little time at the start to carefully choose what you will never want to pay for backing up. Things like music files, pictures if they are not important to you and movies are good things to consider excluding from your backups.

The confirmation email will arrive.

When your secure backup area has been setup at the data centre you will receive an email confirming this. You cannot start backing up until you receive this confirmation email. Usually it is received within a few minutes of starting your account. But if you do not receive the email, first check your SPAM folder, and then contact the support line and let them know there may be a problem.

The first full backup.
The software will first do a backup of all the information in your selected folders. After this has completed it will toggle itself into incremental mode, backing up only new and changed data on your computer. Depending on how much information is on your computers and how fast your internet connection is, this may take some time. We would suggest starting larger backups over the weekend. Or if you have over 30Gb to backup you may wish to contact the office so the first backup can be completed onto USB disk and delivered to the data centre. After the first backup your Internet connection will be fast enough to do new and changed files only.
What if I have a problem with the setup?
The DataFort support desk is there to help. Part of the DataFort Select Service is ongoing account support. If you have a problem at any time either create a trouble ticket from the 'Help' menu on the software agent, or call the support line on 01483 871 998.
What if I want to cancel the service?
If you cancel the service within the first 30 days you will not be invoiced for the service. However, if you use the account for over a month you will receive an invoice for the cost of the first month's service. To cancel the service please email the support team at Please help us by letting us know why you have chosen not to continue with the service and remember to uninstall the software from your computer. You will receive an email confirming your cancellation.
If there is anything we can do to improve your comfort with the service contact our head of business development and we will do our best to assist you.
